前回(ぜんかい)の記事(きじ)では、友人(ゆうじん)の誘(さそ)い方(かた)についてでした。 The last blog was about the phrases when you invite your friends. 今日(きょう)は、お友達(ともだち)に会(あ)った時(とき)の挨拶(あいさつ)について! Today, it is about when you meetup the friends. ★元気(げんき)? genki? how are you? / what's up? *Literary, it means are you fine? If you say the end of き longer, it makes much more cheerful sounds. Like genkiiiii? (It gets higher pitch toward the end) ★久(ひさ)しぶり hisashuburi It's been a while ★最近(さいきん)、どうしてた*? saikin, doshite ta? How have you been lately? *This is better to say in the past tense, since you are actually meeting the friend. If you are not with the friend and asking in text or phone, it is the present tense. Which is どうしてる? ★変わってないね! kawatte naine You haven't changed You may want to add きれいだね/kirei dane (you are cute / pretty), 元気そうだね/genki so dane (you look fine!) after. Curtains up! すっかり春 はる の陽気 ようきになったニューヨークです! It finally became Spring weather here in New York! 温 あたた かいだけで、ルンルンと気分 きぶん があがりますね♪ Only it's because warm, it makes moods go up♪ 日本 にほん から来 き ていた友人 ゆうじん から、急 きゅう にお誘 さそ いが。 (I) got a sudden notice for meeting up from a friend of mine visiting from Japan. ハッピーアワーに一杯いっぱい。3年ねん 振ぶ りの再会さいかい に、話はなし が止と まりませんでした。 (We had) a drink at Happy Hour. It has been three years for reunion, we never stop talking. 会あ いたい、と言い ってくれる友人ゆうじん がいるのは有難ありがた いことですね。 It is grateful thing that there are friends saying 'I want to meet you'. 今日きょう の表現ひょうげん は、ありがとう!Thank you! ★ありがとう ございます arigato gozaimasu* (* u is a silence letter, so the sound spelling would be "gozaimas") Thank you very much. Gozaimasu is honorific clause. It can be also ありがとう/arigato, without ございます as casual tense. [e.g.] 連絡れんらく して下くだ さって、 ありがとうございます。 Thank you for getting in touch. ★サンキュー / サンクス sankyu / sankusu Thank you / Thanks These are very casual expressions, so you want to use for your friends, family or very close friends, unless they are learning English. [e.g.] 母はは : あ、アイス買ってきたよ。 息子むすこ:お、サンキュー! Mother : Ah, I got ice cream (from a store) for you. Son : Oh, thank you! ★あざーす aza-su Thaaaaaanks! It is a really casual way to say thanks. It comes from the sound of ありがとうございます/arigatougozaimasu.It is safe to NOT use it for your boss or business setting unless your team are close each other. [e.g.] 上司じょうし: よし、今日きょう は、俺おれ のおごりな! 部下ぶか 達たち: あざーーす!! Boss : Well, it's on me today! Employees : Thaaaaanks! ★感謝かんしゃ します kansha shimasu I appreciate that / for [e.g] お気遣きづか いに感謝かんしゃ しています I appreciate your concerns. (Lit. is " I am appreciating your concerns") ★御礼おれい の言葉ことば もありません。 orei no kotoba mo arimasen Lit. There is no word that can thank enough [e.g] 御社おんしゃのお心遣こころづか いには、御礼おれい の言葉ことば もございません。* *ございません is honorific version of ありません. (We) can't thank enough for your company's concerns for us. (it's really polite and business tense. If it doesn't sound that way, it's because of my English ^^; ) ★感謝かんしゃ しても、しきれません。 kansha shite mo, shikire masen. can't thank enough [e.g.] 応援おうえん してくださって、感謝かんしゃ してもしきれません。 (I) can't thank enough for your supports.
